less than 24 hours from now I'll be in the airport....

according to some random statistics (ones that don't specifically name the surveyed population), approximately 25% of people fear public speaking more than dying.

i'll admit, i am one of those people. i'd say it's because life is too short to spend the majority of it fearing death, or that knowing enough people who have passed on reminds me that death is a regular and natural part of life and thus it desensitizes fears to it; and maybe these are partly true. BUT more so, i'm just incredibly terrified of public speaking. large audience, listening to me speak, judging the very phrases as they exit my mouth...

i mention this here because, strangely enough, those fears of mine carry over into the realm of the internet, including group emails, facebook statuses, academic online discussions, and yes, even blogs.
why? i don't really know. i recognize that it is silly. and that it has kept me from making my first blog post here until now. so, i'm forcing myself to get over it.

so here it is. tomorrow at approximately 8:10pm, i'll be on a chartered flight, bound for Glasgow. i'll arrive early in the morning (relatively early... the time change will make it seem earlier). i'll probably walk out of the airport as the sun is rising. after that..... not sure yet. and i kind of like that. the next 5 months of my life are full of possibilities.

i've barely packed. i seem to be a chronic procrastinator (but i do useful things as i procrastinate... research my flight - i get free coffee, tea, water and juice! - clean kitchen, make dinner, do laundry, hang out with brothers, help clean basement, etc).

the packing will all be done before i sleep tonight though. it feels pretty surreal that i'm leaving the country tomorrow. my to do list is getting shorter and shorter, and soon it will just be a few random visits before i head off to the Toronto airport with my bros and my mother.

yep. thats where things are at. i should go take the lasagna out of the oven, and then maybe start to sort my clothing.
